The Great Fire of London started in the early hours of Sunday, 2 September 1666. It began in a bakery on Pudding Lane owned by Thomas Farriner.
The fire started accidentally when a spark from the oven ignited some nearby firewood.
The fire quickly spread due to a combination of factors: the wooden structures of the buildings, the narrow streets, and the strong winds that fanned the flames. Despite efforts to create firebreaks by demolishing buildings, the fire raged on for four days, destroying a large part of the city.
It’s a fascinating yet tragic event in London’s history.
